Man, what great photos, reports -- I really like that 'Chernobyl' catfish! That **is** an odd color!

So, this 'hotspot'... something with rocks, near the dam? Don't want you to 'spill the beans,' necessarily, if you don't want to, but I sure wouldn't mind knowing some better spots to hit on that lake. I haven't had a whole lot of luck out there my past few times out.

Will they allow tubes & kickboats out there yet, or do you just take your chances?

It's great to hear you're catching some nice fish out there -- a **6'er** just last week, eh? Pretty cool!

The photos really add to the stories -- thanks for all the info!

Dude
Nice site, looks really good. I dig it!
Ever see any big stripers in those Campbell perc ponds? Thinking about going over there some time.

Thanks Jeff and Swimbait,

About Lexington. I'm ADDICTED to this place! The hotspot isn't really hot anymore, but I still call it that for lack of a better name. There really isn't any secret to this place. Just fish it and you will catch fish. They're everywhere. If you really want to go I can give you some detailed spots to try.

You're allowed to float tube and kick boat there now. I've never seen a ranger this winter so I don't really know. The lake is about 70 feet down, so launching isn't very fun.

As for the Campbell Perc Ponds. If you ever been there, you'd understand that the posibility of another striper being caught is next to nill. They're tiny and extremely shallow. I personally hate them. Stevens Creek has scads of super-aggressive trout eaters in spring (I've got stories about them :), but they don't really get above 6-7 pounds.

Man, looking at the reports, you have much too much time to fish! Good for you!

Just wanted to let you know I'm looking into the catfish. I think I know what it is but am asking my Dad (who's an Ichthyologist) for confirmation.

Again, sweet website!

Todd

Just to let you guys know - my Dad's response:

The catfish pic appears to be one of a yellow bullhead, but I can't bepositive because some key characters are not shown (e.g., color or chin barbel, count of anal fin rays and shape of fin).

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-01 AT 02:43 PM (PST)

one of the lakes I think of when I consider where to go to throw TROUT PLUGS. I presume they've begun stocking rainbows there again this year? I'm beginning to doubt whether they'll stock Lexington this year, with the water being so low. I guess the place I've seen the most info about planting schedules is in Western Outdoor News, or maybe the weekly Mercury News or SF Chronicle Outdoors/Fishing Reports sections (they're easier -- they're accessible on the WEB!). I'll have to take a look there to see what's up.

Speaking of trout plugs, though: I'm **considering** ordering a couple of Osprey 'Talons' off that UMAXCO website. 'Cher' responded to my e-mail yesterday, saying that they have the 9" 'light rainbows' in stock ($19.99 a pop). All I gotta do is yank out 'the card' (again!)! I just bought the 8" (9"?) Optimum rainbow bait at the ISE show, but you guys know how **vulnerable** I am when I see a hot, new bait! (Gotta have it!!!!)

('Course, there're plenty of OLD 'new' baits that I have yet to catch a fish on! I'm gonna have to buy a **500-lb** capacity kickboat to be able to carry all this $h%# out with me!). :-)

I'll keep you posted!

DFG will start stocking Stevens Creek and Lexington in early March (Loch Lomond too) There's good bass-trout activity at Stevens Creek about mid march-april. The DFG is overloaded with trout this year so Santa Clara county lakes are posted for extra heavy trout stockings this spring. Actually, Lexington is supposed to get the biggest increase in stocks, but you're right, I don't know if it will get any with the water level as it is. I'm trying to get this years stocking schedule for the county, I'll post it when I do.
