#14508, "late spawn & The Open"

There's a thread on NCBF about the late spawn because of all the bad weather we've had this year. Great info! It got me thinking, there's gonna be one heckuva spawn happening when it comes time to fish the Open this year. :D yeah baby! I can't wait. If only I had some vacation time to prefish for it...

Oh yeah, I know there are always tourneys on Clear Lake but does anyone know if there are any big ones going on during the Open?
Not that it's been a major problem but it'd sure be nice if there was only a club tourney or two going on instead of a WON BASS event or whatever.

Chris,

I asked John that question last week and his response was that the same local club as last year is going to be there again.

Hmmm... I don't recall who that was. I thought there was a bigger event going on last year. Maybe I was just confusing it with the last time we had the Open at the Keys. The Keys is still my favorite area and the campground is awesome. (maybe next year!? I hope) I guess BASS liked the Keys too. That was kinda cool how they divided it up for the their recent event there. I was suprised by it. I figured they were going to divide the entire lake, not just the Keys & Rattlesnake area.

i dont think the big tourneys will be a problem, some guys can get nasty but most r cool and tend to leave when they see us stick big fish or 2 right in front of them. but then again there are always ####s but hey thats what swimbaits r used for secondary :7

I see an 'ABA NC Team' event there on Sunday, according to my 'Gone Fishing' calendar. No idea how many boats that would be, though, or where they're launching from.

There will be a tournie both days. The stratos tournament is saturday and the NC sunday. Neither will be at state park. There is a won bass the weekend before, I'll be there. There is at least 1 club going out of state park. I know there is another going fishing clear that weekend as well but not sure where they are blasting off yet. There is an event scheduled every weekend on clear in may so there is no way around it. The way I look at it as long as there isnt a pro am were all good.

Here's an updated list from NCBF. 6 events at once:

1. The Stratos Owners tourney
2. A club fishing out of Lucerne
3. The Bass Classics club fishing out of State Park (2 days)
4. An Anglers World tourney out of Red Bud (never heard of them)
5. An ABA tourney on Sunday
6. And us.

:o Maybe one big event in addition to ours would have been better! HAR!!

Lets just go out and have fun, it is nearly impossible to try and schedule around Clear Lake tournaments in the Spring, it is just something we have to deal with. See you all out there

Excuse me! I wasn't suggesting we lynch the tourney director, Josh.
I realize everybody's club wants to fish Clear Lake at this time of the year.
It's conversation for the forum. It gets kinda boring hangin' out at my pad, solo, with nothing to do but watch TV and do my laundry. OK?

I intend to have a great time and I hope everyone else does too.

but at least its a huge lake and everyone will spread out a bit. Here is a lil break down of # of boats per event. I have done my research.

1. The Stratos Owners tourney<<<<<less then 50 probally in the 30 range
2. A club fishing out of Lucerne<<<<gilroy bass about 6
3. The Bass Classics club fishing out of State Park (2 days<<<<<aprox a dozen, same guys as last year, good group and there wont be any problems.
4. An Anglers World tourney out of Red Bud (never heard of them<<<<aprox 20
5. An ABA tourney on Sunday<<<< these guys get about 30-35 but being clear in may might see 40 no more then 50
6. And us>>>more then everyone else

The thing about fishing around the pro ams is #1 the attitude of the other boats on the water vs. club and team guys. a pro am is a lot more hardcore and we will run into more problems on the water besides they get 100+ boats.

Just for your guys info I believe they're getting more than just 40 boats since the two tourneys I've been with them they had 67 on Clear and 57 at Sonoma. Their other tourneys have drawn at least 50 boats. Not that this makes a huge difference but just an FYI.

I just might have to. Things are tough right now. I had to cancel on the BASS Fed event this weekend all ready. Lets see after the Open. Sounds like better turn outs then WON

I know most would but BNT's rule is safe light. BNT rules can only be changed at the begining of the year at our annual meeting. Sorry guys but the decision has been discussed and made.

Safe light is fine by me. I don't like launching the dark for a tournament.

Are we going to have the flights again this year?

The fishing is good early, but at my age, every minute of sleep counts.

I plan to do it in 2-4 flights depending on the # of angler's. Probally the same set up as last year runners parking in the same location with an escort truck.
