Corbina feed mostly on sand crabs. Crabs are crustaceans. Crustaceans have to shed their shell when they grow too big for it. Before the new exoskeleton hardens, the sand crabs are very vulnerable. These soft-shelled crabs are the prime bait for corbina. Many of the crabs found will be barren. Don't use 'em. Choose only the crabs that have red or orange eggs under the tail. All sizes of crab have worked for me but the dime-sized ones have worked more consistently. I've caught corbina on fresh mussel and one on cut mackerel, but almost all have been taken on sand crabs.

On some of the boards, folks recommend using plastic grubs. Last August, I saw a nice corbina (about 4 lbs) caught on a tiny Scampi. I have seen two others caught on 2-inch purple curly-tailed grubs. I've fished lures for many hours targeting barred perch and have never hooked a corbina. . I don't throw lures at corbina much, so I'm no expert of this fishing style.
