#11559, "Ventura through Santa Barbara kayak fishing spots?"

Any suggestions for good fishing spots to put in with a kayak from Ventura up through Santa Barbara? Also, any suggestions, or, resources (website, tackle shop, etc) on what might be biting there, what they bite on, seasonal/conditional information, etc?

Thanks,

VM

Hey Virgil. I live in Downtown Santa Barbara and kayak along the coast for Halibut, bass, salmon, etc. There are numerous spots to launch from Ventura to Gaviota: Goleta pier, SB harbour, Carp city beach, Pitas point. Lots of reefs, kelp beds to find fish. Im always looking for new spots. I cant wait for this April - gonna slow troll and mooch for salmon!! Also, Halibut should be moving into shallow water really soon. email me if you have other questions - ramingo1@hotmail.com

I fish in the Santa Barbara area. Mostly I fish the goleta area theres alot of reef action and sandy flats theres alot of fish in this area. You can always find bass and rockfish somewhere. The area off haskels beach is also great. Your best bet is to target bass and rockfish. The halibut will be moving up soon but i havnt heard any action yet and seabass will make an apperance in the santa barbara area soon. If this warm weather holds a little longer the seabass and buts will show up sooner.
email me if you want more info or company on the water

What up DBLAZ. Its been pretty slow around here. I did manage a few bass off the Goleta pier yesterday, but no halibuts yet. If you got a yak, La Jolla has been pretty good. I caught a 20 pound yellowtail there a few weeks back. Western Outdoors reported that some guy on the Charger nailed a 36 pound Halibut near Carp last week. I think theyre still deep, but it wont be that much longer.

La Jolla died Friday morning. I fished the Big Waters Edge Tourney on Sat. We all expected a 40+ YT or a 50+ WSB to take 1st. An 8lb. Ling took the $1000. Only bait t be made was giant smelt. Myself, I ended up getting a 2lb calico and a mack. Did farm a couple bass and rockfish, but it was really slow. Unfortuanately, I didn't know the canon was right out front. If I had I would've gone there when I gave up on the smeltfest.

Kayaksportfishing has a tourney this weekend at Dana. Two main divisions; big fish and best 3 bass. I'll be doing the bass. If any of you make it, introduce yourself. I'll be fishing my grey Cabo.
