I used to catch barracuda in the Atlantic all the time, and some nice ones. I have never seen anybody keep them, nor have I heard of anybody eating them. Ive noticed that many people in SoCal are keeping cuda. Are you guys eating those things? Are they any good, they look like they would be bony too.

Ours are a different species of 'cuda. They can spoil easily but if cared for are good on the table. A lot of people eat 'em.

On the reefs in the Caribbean, 'cudas eat glass minnows which eat poison algae...so when you eat the 'cuda, you can get sick!

"...About Ciguatera
Ciguatera fish poisoning (or ciguatera) is an illness caused by eating fish that contain toxins produced by a marine microalgae called Gambierdiscus toxicus. People who have ciguatera may experience nausea, vomiting, and neurologic symptoms such as tingling fingers or toes. They also may find that cold things feel hot and hot things feel cold. Ciguatera has no cure. Symptoms usually go away in days or weeks but can last for years. People who have ciguatera are treated for their symptoms...Ciguatera illness generally occurs in the tropical regions of the world..."

In the Bahamas, they give a piece of the 'cuda to their dog first....but I love my dog too much to do that!

I don't know if the Pacific 'cudas carry the disease or not...

It's just a beating....until you fight back.

cudas are safe to eat. with the thousands of cudas being caught each day during the wfo cuda season that happens each year, you would think that you know of atleast one fisherman with that ailment.

the cuda are pretty good to eat. on the party boats people just toss them into the bait tank, leave them out, or do what i do, leave them out and occasionally soak them (this works out the best because they get soggy when left in the water. also, if you can, you should bleed them.
