#10214, "Good rockfish report"

One 9 lb ling, one short 22" ling, one 3 lb cab, one 2 1/2 lb black/yellow rockfish, one 2 lb seatrout, four 1 lb blue rockfish. These were my son's results on a private boat atop the San Mateo County reefs for the rockfish opener. I should have gone with him to at least double the count.

Terminal gear was a dropper leader with a Green Mackerel FT 5" swimbait below a homemade white bucktail shrimpfly with motoroil grub, all smeared with Mikes Herring scent.

When I rockfish I use a BH swimbait, but they are harder to find where my son lives. I also use scents that seem stickier to me (and to the bait, LOL) than Mikes brand, to which my son is addicted because he catches everything in salt or freshwater with Mikes. Also I like the BH trout colors for lings. PS: if I had been there I would have used one of his live blue rockfish to try to catch a really big ling. I have caught lings in the upper teens on the SM County reefs, and have lost some that seemed much larger.
