Well its been a while since I posted a report so I thought I better get back on the stick and stop being such a lurker :-). Anyways launched out of Channel Islands harbor this morning with my buddies Matt Russell and Mark Johnson. After picking up a half a scoop of nice chovies (that’s right I bought bait) we started for Chinese harbor to try and get us some of those pesky seabass, unfortunatly the seas has other ideas, there was a real tight chop coming in from the west/southwest, so we pointed it towards Anacapa till we got in the lee of the Islands to get out of it (kinda stinks when you have to run 10miles out of you way to get somewhere) Anyways by the time we got there 75% of our bait had rolled from the beating, but that was ok because we were getting way more action on the 5in Big Hammers. We caught and released quite a number of decent calicos and two blacks to 50lbs before we ran back around to fish between smugglers and Pedro point where we caught a bunch more calicos and had a nice WSB rip my Hammer of the lead head right at the boat! Then when that water got too dirty to fish we worked the hard bottom just to the west of Pedro point to finish our day. We ended up catching and releasing 50-60 legal calicos to about 31/2lbs and the two BSB. With the hot Hammers being redflake/calico hunter special and good ole clear/redflake…Larry
