Fished Haskell's Beach for an hour or so late afternoon on Friday (April 23) to try out the new "Sea Wolf" colored Big Hammer perch grubs. The conditions were "rough". Not many weeds but it was windy and there were lots of medium sized waves coming in one after the other along with a pretty fast East moving current. After a few casts and trying different retrieves I found that they wanted a fast retrieve. Once I had that retrieve down I got bit on nearly every cast and ended up catching quite a few (lost count) average sized perch.
Headed out to East Goleta Beach Saturday morning (April 24) at sunrise to find okay conditions but not many fish. The weeds were pretty bad but only a short distance out - then the water cleared up nicely. The problem was that most of the perch were in tight (and subsequently - in the weeds). I ended up with a couple of perch on the Sea Wolf colored grub. Mike stuck to the small swimbaits and got a few short bites from the perch - no sign of halibut.
