Went out for an afternoon of float tubing. Started off near the natural bridge in "less than adequate" conditions. The water was pretty muddy and there were a fair amount of loose weeds but not to the point of making it un-fishable.
I fished the area from very shallow out to about 12 feet deep with the 3 inch Big Hammer, Excalibur Long A, Fastrac, and 5 inch Big Hammer for one short halibut on the Excalibur. Once I'd get out to about 10 feet deep I started metering stuff so thick that at times my depth finder mistook it for the bottom. I was also getting millions of little strikes on the 5 inch swimbait.
I decided to kick over closer to U.C.S.B. and did the same thing. The conditions were similar. Fished the deeper water with the big swimbait then moving a little closer with the Fastrac and Excalibur. Then I went in very shallow (sitting in about 4 feet and casting to the shore) and got a 26 inch halibut on the 3 inch 'Chovy Big Hammer.
Off in the distance there was an area where the birds kept working pretty good. It was a bit out of my range but there was a kayaker out there. A little later the kayaker paddled over and it was my boss. He said the only thing he found in the working birds was mackerel. The fog rolled in and I started getting cold so I decided to kick back toward Goleta Beach (where the fog hadn't hit yet). On my way I found that thick stuff again on the depth finder. I put on a 1/2 oz. Krocodile and sure enough - they were mackerel. So I played with them for a while as I kicked back.
Back near Goleta Beach I did the same thing I was doing earlier and got a nice sized yellowfin croaker on the Fastrac before calling it a day.
