I was planning to be albacore fishing for 3 days on my cousins boat but it didn't work out. The towing vehicle took a dump.
Friday morning I went out to the rocks near Goleta Beach for a couple hours and managed to fall in the ocean but shortly after that while I was freezing to death I saw some boils and for about 30 minutes got a lot of strikes on plastic but none of them wanted the hook. Nice to see some shredded plastic in November off the surf.
Saturday my uncle, cousin, and I went in thier little boat around Morro Rock and fished bait and plastics to get some nice rockfish (15 inch Blue Rockfish was the biggest) and a couple decent (24 inch) lingcod (my first!). Caught some sandabs on plastic (my cousin was amazed). I put a 3/4 oz. jighead on a tiny little wormking (it looked rediculous) and they ate it up.
Sunday we took the Fiesta out for albacore. Report: 25 fish for 13 people. We got shut out by the approaching storm just before noon. My cousin got 4 fish, my uncle got 1, and I got 2. I got the only fish on a lure. As soon as I was finished fighting my first (bait) fish I grabbed my plastic rod and threw it out amongst the 10 other baits and tons of chum in the water and was the only one to hook up right then. I love fishing plastics!!!! All fish were in the 25 to 35 pound range except for one 57 pounder caught by someone who (of course) didn't enter the jackpot. He also handed the fish off so it wouldn't of counted anyway. The other boat (can't remember the name) got 8 fish for like 30-some people so I guess we picked the right boat!
