I don't know about sight fishing at Lopez. Lopez has some really stained water. But the Wittenburg arm has always been good to me form shore. I used to fish back by the boy scout camp and the little island by Mustang Camp ground. Also, you can try down by the marina in that small cove.

Jeff, I was just out at Lopez today. I only went for an hour after work so I was just shorebound (I usually tube). In the last 15 minutes of light I hooked up with one that felt about 3lbs, but lost it in a patch of stickups. I was fishing outside whittenburg with a watermelon senko and also had a few missed bites. They have Whittenburg arm closed off right now for the spawn. I didn't venture back there to see if any were on beds, but I doubt they are yet. The good news is that it seems they're starting to come shallow and hit senkos again. I would imagine some bass will start to show on white blades (my favorite lopez bait) again aswell.-Phil

Phil,
Sounds like the fish might be going soon. I haven't been up that way since May but Lopez is one of my favorite lakes to fish. I haven't done any good on senko's there but I mainly throw jigs and cranks up there. But blades are also very good and I have caught many fish on them there. How is the water level? The last time I was there in May it was way down. I heard something about fixing the dam for earthquake safety and that they were going to let water out for the next 18 months.

Jeff, I have heard that they will only let the water level at Lopez reach a maximum of 70%. As long as it's under 70% there is no threat from earthquakes. They are working on the dam right now and the level seems to be around 65% or so.-Phil
