It's not California but it's only an hour south.

I was going to go out on the Freedom out of Long Beach Saturday but my cousins got their boat fixed so I buzzed down to Ensenada for some yellowtail and albacore.

Once again I was shut out on the albacore but I did score the biggest yellowtail. It was an 18 pounder and my personal best. It was the first fish from the first pattie we stopped at and it was on a scrambled egg Iron Man (my first yellow on iron). We did get two albies on board and had one missed jig strike (Mexican Flag). One of the albies was caught trolling a plastic (big head - little body) and the other was a nice 30 pounder on bait. We also picked up a few more yellows off patties on bait but they were all in the 10 pound range. The water was crystal clear and it was awesome watching the yellowtail about 30 feet down gobbling up the chum. We fished about 25 miles out from Ensenada. There were reports of Dorado but they were small ones (5 - 10 lbs.) and one guy somewhere had a marlin on.

Funny thing about that 18 pound yellowtail. Everyone thought it was like 25 pounds. Makes you wonder about the actual size of fish when you hear people over the radio giving out fish reports. I'm pretty sure most if not all of them are not actually weighing the fish and just guessing and it seems that they over guess by at least 5 pounds per 20 pounds of fish.
