#12645, "Patriot 8/19"

Hit the 3/4 day trip on the patriot yesterday in hopes of getting some yellows. Left right on time at 7 and picked up some great 5-6" dines at the bait barge, and them headed out to the bait boat to pick up some pinhead chovies. From there we had a 3 hour boat ride down to oceanside to where they have been getting the yellows. Pulled out just inside the helena who had 20 some yellow on the boat already in hopes of getting some of those yellows. Right as our first baits hit the water, they r picked up, but it was the wrong kind, cudas. About 5 minutes later, the kid fishing right next to me decides to put a swim bait on, and drops in down about 15-20 feet, and leaves it sitting there. About a minute later, when this kid was about to fall asleep he gets picked up, and ended up catching an 8 lb yellow. Who would have thought still fishing swimbaits 15 feet down where you can still see the swimbait. From the we had about 6 stop which resulted in 2 more yellow and a couple of bass. After that the captain headed in on the beach to the kelp for 45 minutes of wide open calico and cuda fishing. When we first pulled up to the spot a guy was reel in a bass when an estamated 100 lb black sea bass follows it all the way to the boat. Then about 30 seconds later another guy reeling in a calico gets picked up by the bsb about 15 feet from the boat, and get rocked by it on 25 lb test. Also on the last stop we had 35+ lb yellow boiling off the bow. the captain hooked 2 on 30 and couldnt stop them both and the deckhand kooked 1 on 30 and couldnt stop it. Also about 5 other ppl hooked up with them and also couldnt stop them. I didnt even try to hook one with my 20 lb test after watch the yellow peel line of the capatins reel with 30 on it faster than wat the machine puts the line on.
Boat review:
Crew: One of the best crews ive ever had on a 3/4 boat. I dont think i had to undo one tangle the entire trip since the deckhand were right on top of it.
Captain: Super hard worker. Tried really hard to put us on the fish. He even appologized for making a 30 mile run and only catching 3 yellow. I thought that was pretty cool and have never seen a captain do that.
Boat: super clean boat. Nice big galley. Lots of deck space.
