We started the day going for calicos, with little success. After a few hours of this, we decided to put some meat in the bags, and went for rockfish. We limited out on rockfish in a matter of minutes.
We then made our way back along Santa Cruz, and made a few stops for calicos, the last stop being the best by far. I ended up catching and releasing over a limit of calicos, my wife caught and released 1/2 a limit. Considering the calico bite has been pretty slow up there recently, I was pleased with the results. Total count on calicos was @ 40; all calicos released with the exception of 3 (they were gut-hooked and bleeding).
Big fish of the day was a 12lb sheephead.
The red tide was pretty bad up there--the harbor, and a good part of the channel. I have another charter up there next weekend, so I hope conditions improve.
