Does anyone have any information on skiff fishing in Newport harbor during the winter months? I am planning on taking out a skiff next week, but don't know if it will be worth the time considering that the water temp. has dropped. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, the bay is a great year 'round fishery. The key is that the water temp should be stable for the best bite. It can be only 57 degrees but if it's been that for several days, it can be a good day. I would fish slower and deeper early and then try shallower as the day progresses and the skinny water warms up. When it is cold, the bass tend to be tighter to structure. Channel edges and deeper pilings are a good choice. If you fish plastics, downsize your offerings and fish them slower right on the bottom. In the bay, current movement is a key factor for a good bite. Good luck.
