#12353, "Does anyone near Ventura/SB know where to buy "lugworms..."
Somebody told me that they use "lugworms" for fishing in the ocean. I was wondering if anybody knew what they are and who sells them in Santa Barbara or Ventura. It's a live bait... Thanks!

Lugworms are mud-burrowing marine worms that are fatter at the head and tappering toward the tail. Perch and corbina will take them. I have heard of them being used from Malibu south. You should check all bait shops in the Ventura and Santa Barbara areas (for example, Erik's, Harbor Tackle, Hook, Line, and Sinker), but I do not recall seeing them. There are plenty of good alternative baits, one being the Big Hammer 1 3/4" grub, available at many shops in the area.

There is a hardware store in Guadalupe, a small city about 1 hour north of Santa Barbara that sells marine worms. The guy gets a shipment in once a week or at least he was about 2 months ago when i bought some off him. They work super good for perch and corbina as well as rockfish. I am not sure what the store is called but i am sure there are not to many hardware stores in Guadalupe. Charlie

Thank you for the info. I live in Ventura so I don't think I will be able to get up to Guadalupe anytime soon. And to the other reply, I currently, almost exclusively fish with Big Hammer Grubs. I get my share of action with the perch, but scarcely get bit by corbinas, which is what I am afer. I have only caught 2 corbs in my life and I hope to build upon that soon! Thanks for your help!
