#3269, "WSB Methods"

Over the past few months I have been chasing Halibut from a kayak. Generally doing quite well. In the last week, white sea bass have been more active. No legals but getting close. What are the better aproached to targeting WSB? I typically throw plastic.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,
dbp

Swimbaits are great. Try just reeling them in instead of hopping them along the bottom - maybe with quick pauses in the retrieve.

Other lures that work well are Krocodiles (1 oz.) and jerkbaits such as Fastracs and Long As (among others).

It's widely known that WSB love live squid, but they're not easy to come by this time of year. There's another bait that seems to work as well, if not better at times. Pacific Mackerel. That's what I've caught all mine on. Give it a shot if there's any around.

I would agree, slow trolling a mac or horse dine can do wonders on the croaker. They are still around down here in DP, might chase them Sunday along with the influx of tails we've been waiting for. For the Yak guys, the tails are within reach of Laguna.
