I've been using weedless jig heads with my plastics for bass in the kelp. It let's me get right into the rocks and kelp of the Ventura Harbor breakwater and I've been getting some decent fish off my kayak. The type I like best have a wire weed guard that is less visible than the "toothbrush" style. Both work. I had doubts about hooking ability with a guard on but no problem. Give 'em a try and let me know what ya think.

Most tackle shops that cater to largemouth bass fishermen should have them. Hard to find in anything over 1/2 oz. I use 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz jig heads from Wally mart.

The darter jigheads on page 172 of the 2000 Bass Pro Shops catalog in the lower left corner are awesome. I mostly fish for halibut so I'm not as worried about the lure being weedless so I haven't tried the weedless version but it looks good. They go up to 3/8 oz.
I've also used the Oldham's Weedless Moss Head Screwlock Jig on page 173 for largemouth bass and it's worked pretty well. I know these are the wire type weedguard but they go up to 1/2 oz. The hooks aren't as good as the Owners - of course!
The only problem is BPS won't sell these to people in California because of some lead laws so you either have to get a local tackle shop to special order them for you or have someone order them for you that lives in another state.
Pete
You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.
