...surfer. Yup, I'm sure if you surf fish then you know what I'm talkin' bout. I fished El Porto Saturday morning at dawn. I was one of the first on the beach. Dropped my bucket a little north of the rocks figuring that I should stay away from where the surfers would go. Fished for about 20 minutes then a couple of guys paddled out right in front of me. Whatevers, theres plenty of beach, but they chose to go out right in front of me. Then it happened, he caught a wave and headed straight for my line. Board went under, he went over, tangled up my line and his leash. We managed to undo it and we both went on like it never happened. I myself like to surf, but I have always showed everyone (fishers, swimmers, bodyboarders) respect for theire space. Is it me, or are surfers assuming that the beach is theires? Or are we supposed to yield to them? Don't they know that our hooks are "laser" sharp?
OK, now I feel better that I've vented, on with the report. I managed to hook some manini size perch. Maybe about 6"-8" at most. No sand crabs so I used grubs. Still waiting to hook the fatties or better yet, some Corbina's. There were a couple other people fishin' that morning, if you are reading this I'm just wondering how you did.

Good post Kelly...Creek is pretty fishable for the most part except in summer (best to go early morning/late afternoon). Surfers are rarely a problem at all...usually it is some tourist spongers or little kids. Sometimes north of gravels, most of the beach is empty, but inevitably, some little kids will start playing in the surf about 30 feet from my line!? They seem to be attracted to fisherman or something...especially when you catch a baby shark!? All the kids come running over when you get one...kind of funny. And Chris, hopefully we will get surf soon...I haven't surfed for a while...need to get out there!

Todd,
I heard you caught a nice corby a little while back. Nice job bro! I can't wait for the sand crabs to start showing and working Gravels for the corbs. I might hit it on Sunday for the morning bite if the surf is weak? Maybe I can talk Chris into going instead of roller blading in W. Hollywood.....J/K net

Thanks for the kudos Kelly. That corbina was fun to catch...first of the season for me! However, there are still very few crabs at gravels (I found 5 after 10 minutes of digging!? when I got that corb). I think there are a lot more at strands though. They should be moving in any day though...the fish won't be far behind!

That corbina was fun to get! However, there are still hardly any crabs at gravels (I got lucky that day I got the corb...found 5 medium sized crabs after 10 minutes of digging?!). Mostly micro-crabs now...I hear there are lots at strands though. They should be moving in everywhere soon though...with the fish not far behind!

gotta love Whities! Sickest right hand tube in OC, bar none, when it is on- Hopefully we will get a few good chubascos to make the left get silly! Nice having a couple of fickle, but all time waves in the old back yard! Watching Potter and Carroll at the point back in the day can only be called epic!!

Not only is Sean brilliant, he has apparently found that funny loop hole in the law that says surfers own the beach...To heck with local fishermen, local bodyboarders (I used to bodyboard 5 times a week by choice, BTW), swimmers, half men, bodysurfers, kids, etc...Boy don't we all wish he didn't figure all this out and wise up...

Jig is up, guys...The surfer knows...Lets all go home now.

With that mentality you just might catch a triangle sinker between the eyes! ;-) OUCH!!

some people just don't respect fisherman. i have even had someone tell me that fishermen are nuisances. whatever. they have their sport and we have ours. i had a similar experience on the lake in my boat. seems that the best water to jet ski in was the area i was anchored in. this idiot wouldn't leave even when i asked politely. said that if i didn't like it move!! i told him that fish only inhabit certain parts of the lake and that is spot was one of them and that he could easily ski somewhere else. after him shouting @#$%&*??!! at me i dialed the local sheriff's office. i told them about this ass and that i was an off duty peace officer and could they come out and check this idiot. they sent a deputy out. after the deputy talking to me about what happened, he gave the guy a ticket for disturbing the peace and is probably going to be banned from the lake and fined several hundred dollars for being stuck on stupid.
