hey guys yall probably dont remember me but i'm that annoying kid from a while back. Well i've been doing great with the stuff yall reccomended me!
i've got my diawa heartland swimbait special, my shimano cardiff 300, and 25 # triline big game. Out here in Maryland i've been throwing the 6 inch castiac slow sinking ob the surface and nailing some nice 4 pound fish.........which is like a 9-10# for you guys. I also went last night and had a bunch of 2 and 3 #'s. and late at night i pulled a 5 pounder with my 9 inch ms slammer baby bass color............its funny when other fisherman look at you when you make those huge splashes when the lure lands......haha

anyway..........
i was wondering if anyone had a video if the rof 5 or 0 huddleston swimbait. i'm interested in this lure and was wonder what the action was/ what other lure it looked like.......

o yeah......i love your reviews Rob....or Mr. rob....it was great to come back to a complete review section.....with rods and glasses...it helps a lot
thanks
ben

god bless

Hey Ben,

That's cool you are having some luck with the swimbaits on the east coast :) I don't have any video of the Huddleston yet, I need to shoot it though. It really doesn't have a lot of action. The body doesn't move at all and the tail just kicks back and forth about 1 inch in either direction. I think the bass just see it going by and when they come up to look at it, it looks so exactly like a trout, they just eat it.

Good luck fishing tonight. The Slammer is always a good bet for night fishing. If you have cloud cover, that's even better. Any of those baits you mentioned could work at night, but I always figure if I can get them to hit the Slammer, I'd rather be fishing the Slammer because it has two hooks and I'll probably land the fish.

I WISH i was using the slammer when this happned:

today i went fishing....had to come home from the storm, but was still able to get a couple of nice 2-3 pounders (nice for maryland)
and missed a monster! i was reeling in my 6 inch slow sinking castiac and statred to reel very fast to get it over the weeds.......well a monster bass exploded on it and i set the hook......i missed him....as i reeled the restof the way in agony....i pulled the lure out of the water to see that the all of the tail behind the hook was ripped offf.......I WISH I INSTALLED THE TREBEL!!!!!!!!!!!......o well thats fishing.

hmmmmmmmmmm i've got 50 $ to spend and 7$ i going towards a new 6 incher.......but what other swimbaits should i pick up from TWH?

anyone try that abt lures hard plasic bait?
Ben

god bless

Ben,

Sorry to hear the big one missed the hook. You probably have read my posts here before talking about hooking percentages but I'll beat it to death one more time...

My philosophy on hookup percentages goes like this:

If I can get away with it, I will always take a two piece wood hardbait with two large treble hooks over any other style swimbait. Those style baits will land the most fish for me.

If I'm not feeling like those style baits are going to get me the most big bites for the situation, then I start going to other baits.

The worst baits for losing fish are the baits with a single treble hook under the head with a bill in front of the hook. The next worst are the imbedded single hook baits like Mission Fish. The next worst are heavy baits with a single hook on the top. The baits with a treble hook on the bottom and a single hook on top are decent, and the rubber baits with two treble hooks on bottom are pretty good usually.

I'm not saying I wont use the other kind of baits, but it's a calculated decision on my part when I use each kind And it's worth considering that a lighter weight lure is harder to throw then a heavy lure. You're going to dump way more fish on an 8" optimum vs. a 5" Optimum for example.

Ben - you have a big advantage where you are fishing right now because the fish aren't seeing a lot of swimbaits. My advice is to wear them out on the Slammer before you start going to other big baits.

If you want my take on what to buy at TW, here's a 50 dollar order that would get you some milage for your buck.

Product Name Quan Price Total Price In Stock
Big Hammer Tail Baitfish 5" 5.29 5.29 Yes
Hammer Head Jig Head 2pk 3/4oz Plain 4/0 2.39 2.39 Yes
MegaBait Charlie Sr. Ghost Brown 8" 12.99 12.99 Yes
Stocker Trout Swimbait Baby Bass 7" 23.95 23.95 Yes

Put a stinger on the 7" stocker trout and burn it on the surface. Swap the hooks on the megabait charlie sr with gammie or owner and fish that one on the surface ... and when you get into areas where you want to put a bait down deeper, try the Big Hammer. Big Hammer works well in the morning/evening hours in the summer/fall especially when fish are eating shad and bluegill. If you're getting small fish on topwater during those times, throw the big hammer out and better quality fish will ususally eat it. Plus you can use it on beds in the spring. On your next order, get a Rago Rat, it'll kill those 2 to 6lb fish. I would pass on the ABT Gladiator lure. I have seen the smaller one in the water and was not that impressed. It's basically a crankbait and I can't see a compelling reason to buy it.

good luck.

WOW:) thanks for that nice reply, that provided me with a lot of info. Alright, i'll probably get those things you suggested, and once i get them i will probably ask for how to rig a stinger hook on them.......o yeah, guess what i found!!!!!......:P i found a pond located nearby that gets stocked with trout a few times a year, and theres rumors of big bass eating the trout while being reeled in....hmmmmmmmmm sounds like a job for me, my rod and my m.s. slammer.

Search the archives for 'stinger hook' and there is at least one thread where Rob lists the exact components he is uning. For a visual, read down a few threads on the 'Huddleston' posts. I put up a picture of a Huddleston with a stinger attached with wire and sleeves.

sorry, next time i'll know

today it was pouring down rain and we got almost 3 inches, it was cold at 43 degrees,

i'm going fishing tomorrow (55 degrees) and was wondering if you know how the fish tend to react after a large downpour with cloudy water....the fish are in prespawn and i'm trying to find an approach to use tomorrow.
