#6061, "hooks on my new swimbaits"

i was wondering if you always impale the trebeles into the belly of the lure of these following baits:

megabait charlie 8'

3:16 rising sun 6.5 and 8' (with stinger )

and where do you imapale the stinger on the castaic hardhead trout 6' (or does it need one?)

thanks

i'm heading to a really sweet pond tomorrow and i lost a 7 1/2 lb'er 3 years ago and there is almost NO fishing presseure (also there have been huge catfish caught which usually means big bass)

BEN

god bless

Ben,
You don't have to set the hook into the belly, some guy's like to. I dont usally impale the first hook when using a stinger I do impale that on because it tends to catch weeds if you dont. On a smaller bait 6"or< I dont add a stinger because even a 2lber can eat a 6" bait but you may want to experiment w/ that. In the end it is just preference trial and error type stuff.

Hey let that Bass go I wanna catch her some day

No problem what I have my stingers attached w/ is just reg. 20lb mono and I have not lost any fish yet so I know 25lb will work. Let us know if you get any tomarrow. I just poured some swimbaits tonight and hope to throw them abit tomarrow at clear lake.

I always insert both hooks into the bait. However, I always smash the barb that is being inserted. That way, the bait will not get torn up every time you remove the hook from the bait(it can usually be removed/ripped out by a fish with no noticeable damage).

25 lb. mono/fluoro is way too light for a stinger hook. At minimum, use 50 lb. braided line. If you use 25 lb., I guarantee that even with the best knot, your line is going to break when you hook a nice fish.

Do it right the 1st time. Use Braided line and you'll never have to worry about that stinger breaking. 20 lb. mono has unquestionably weaker abrasion resistance than braided line. Considering that I throw 25 lb. mono on my reel when chucking swimbaits, it is imperative that I use braided line for my stingers.

If you haven't broken off using 20 or 25lb line to attach your stingers, its only a matter of time, trust me. There's not enough stretch with a 2" piece of mono to absorb the shock. Even if you don't grind your fish in hard, sooner or later you'll hook a fish that jumps and twists or dives straight down under the boat and it'll go plink! and bye bye.

If you want to use mono to attach stingers, don't go any lighter than 40# test. If you go the braided line route, just make sure you have a good proven knot. Done correctly, braided line works fine but if your knot isn't perfect it can pull out. You also have to keep an eye for frays in braid. I personally use 60# coated wire for my stingers because I know I'll always break the main line before I break 60# wire. It might seem like overkill, but you never know when the big one might hit.
