Is the promar promesh net the best net for the fish? Are these nets also hook resistant? Anybody else have any suggestions for nets that are safe for the fish and hook resistant?

I use a Ranger rubber net. Not sure which but it is one of the larger models. Yes it is heavier and harder to move through the water, but i dont want people trying to chase fish with the net anyway. Once you get them in the net you dont get any fin rips or slime coat damage and even better, no tangles.

Rob recommended the Promar halibut/salmon release net a few years ago and I picked one up on that recommendation. I've been very pleased with it. I don't think you can find a better net for the fish. They lay flat in the bottom without any fin damage. The only downside is that the net is NOT hook resistant by any means. Even with the hook tangles, I'm pleased with the net as I've never seen any damage on any of my fish.

Matt makes a good point - hooks really stick in the promart net. Other than that, it's the only way to fly - especially if you have someone with you to net.

That said, I'd like to know what net Butch uses. It looks light, fairly big, and doesn't seem to catch on hooks (just based on what you can see in his video clips). I'd like to have one like that for tournaments.

Another one of Rob's all time recommendations. The Promar is the NET for trophy fishing. For tournament fishing, maybe not so much. The Promar is great to land big fish at the boat on the bigbaits. The net is definitely sticky and going to hang your hooks up. But, ideally the fish has your bigbait inhaled, so shouldn't be an issue!

If you're fishing a tournament with 2 guys in the boat, the Promar could be a bit much to manage. Its a big net and long handle (collapse-able though). If I'm fishing for keeper 2 pounders and such, I'd have a smaller rubber net for the tournament thing. But honestly, who doesn't throw swimbaits in the tournaments these days? So, you've got to get one and figure out "net management" in your boat with this thing. I've put that "grip tape" on the handle, that rod wrap stuff to give me added handling of the net. I fish alone and that net matches up nicely with 8 foot rods and big fishes, hooked on big baits.

Are these nets the promesh from promar? On their website it says that it is hook resistant.
