Ed,
Did that fish look like a saltwater perch, like a Catalina Blue, or a Blacksmith, only green? If so, it was a sunfish, like a bluegill, or a redear. Did you notice how big it's mouth was? If it was the size of a blacksmith's mouth, it was probably a bluegill, if it was bigger, it was probably a redear.
