I resently started throwin swimbaits and I was wondering what baits you guys like best so I dont have to go out and buy them to see if they swim good and if they are durible or not.
I've been throwing the 8 inch castaic soft bait but its allready tearing and I've only gotten one hit on it and one follow up.I've tried bouncing it and the steady retrieves but no luck.appriciate some info.
thanks!

Hard to beat an MS Slammer for lasting performance :-) Any wood bait like the slammer, ac plug, ac minnow etc. are going to pretty much last forever unless you throw it at a rock and crack the bill or something. The plastic baits such as the osprey, generic swimbait, eagle, mission fish etc. will all get torn up after a few fish no matter what, but there are a few upgrades that can prolong their lifespan a little bit. If you're looking for bang for your buck as far as endurance, definitely buy a wood bait of some type over a plastic one. Most folks will tell ya that the slammer is the best wood bait out there, and I'd be one of em...

I assume you are using the Castaic swimbait, because you cannot bounce the softbait trout as it floats(unmodified) The 9" Osprey has really good action, though I would not recomend the 12". The Castaic Soft bait trout lures are awsome (ones with the hard plastic head) 9" and 12" but they need a little weight on the bottem to track better and gain a little depth. I have a 8" optimum swimbait the is OK. The ms slammer is a floating bait and did ok for me this late spring, but many use it through the year. I would start with the first 2 I mentioned.

You can't go wrong with a 9" Slammer. They're extremely durable, the hookup ratio is excellent and they swim great. The fish seem to like them too :)
