Wondering where we should go on Thurs. morning if we don't go to O-side. I was thinking around 15th St. Anyone like this area? Got a better one?

I would try fishing at 15th street. At this time last year the guys from Allcoast and I had our first perch fest at 15th street. Each of us had at least 15 fish each. Good luck.

On a spur of the moment, hit the spot just before high tide today. No sand crabs to be seen so I started tossing the plastic. Two hours latter called it a day. Ten perch, one corvina. First time I have ever in all the years caught a corvina on plastic. Three of the perch were monsters. I was down to my last plastic after a few hours of small perch feasting on thier tails. Saw one other guy down around 13th with chest waders and thought it may be you. Looked like he was using ghost shrimp or something.

I know what you mean about the corbina. I've thrown a lot of plastic at those over the years with out even a lick. Half the time when I take my plastic off and put a softshell in front of the same fish the result is instant hook up. I ruled out plastic fishing for corbina but now that I caught a few corbs on the plastic I've learned that they won't eat it when sandcrabs crabs are available or when they're spawning. Of course there are always acceptions. Crab availability and spawning kind of go hand and hand with those fish. I also learned that the few fish that stay local during the winter will not hesitate to eat the plastic when they see it swim by. My favorite color is orange red. If you've ever seen a the color of a fireball tube bait that's the one..Thanks for the report. See you on the water.

In the future, I plan on doing the grubs but when available, walking the beach with an aluminum can around my neck that is full or sandcrabs so that I can interchange on my Carolina Rig.

The chances of making contact with the Corbs and Spotfins increase dramatically with the natural baits IMO.

Sand Crabs are kind of scarce around my stretch of surf right now but little black crabs are plentiful and get bit pretty well too.

Three of them were BIG. I don't like to estimate wieght. To hold perch for hook removal and release, I usually palm them and hold down the dorsal spikes. The three "monsters", I could barely hold between the tip of my thumb and the tip of my stretched out middle finger. They were not yet spawning plump like they will be a little later. Hook removal was interesting in that they all inhaled the jig head.

I guess I could put some reference marks on my pole to measure.

Guess I picked wrong, twice.

Went to O-side this morning for about 2 hrs (9-11am). I had one BP about 5", Dad got 0. Lot's of bites, just couldn't make 'em stick. Water was super-clear, almost no swell. Cold offshore wind for the first hr or so.

Dad, Step-dad, and I hit south Hunington? around 2:30, fished till 3:30 or 4. No bites. I did spend half the time practicing with a flyrod, and S-dad used the same. Beach topo is goofy due to all the build-up from the rains dumping out of the river. It was immediately obvious that there would be no fish caught. But, we tried. Coldish and very strong onshore wind, swell was small.

Fun day with the dads though, and we'll due it again soon.
